Hoboken’s Mile Square Theatre Welcomes Seasoned New Artistic Director in Residence
Chris Cragin-Day
Hudson County’s renowned Mile Square Theatre has announced its selection of Chris Cragin-Day as its new Artistic Director in Residence. A resident of Weehawken, NJ, Ms. Cragin-Day is a longtime theatre professional and Founder of Firebone Theatre Company, alongside her husband, a commercial animation artist.
Ms. Cragin-Day holds an MA in Theatre and Stage Directing from Baylor University and throughout her career, has written and directed numerous full length plays and musicals. She has been recognized with many awards and commissions, which include the New York Public Theater’s Emerging Writers Group, a Drama League New Director/New Works Grant, a Premiere Stages New Play Award, and a Music Theatre Commission from the Director’s Company.
"As a long-time Weehawkener and Mile Square Theatre-goer, I'm thrilled to join the team to bring exciting and enriching theatrical experiences specifically curated for Hudson County audiences."
Ms. Cragin-Day
“Mile Square Theatre is so fortunate to have Chris join us and her experience in the business of leading a successful theatre company will be invaluable as we balance the growing need for arts and arts education with continually shrinking public funding opportunities. Chris recently wrote one of our world-premiere 24 Hour Plays Hoboken: The 7th Inning Stretch Edition and her one-line bio read, ‘Chris Cragin-Day hates writing anything the night before it is due’ but may we say, it was fantastic!”
Anne Teutschel, Mile Square Theatre’s Board Chair
Founded in 2003, Mile Square Theatre found its permanent home in uptown Hoboken in 2016. The Theatre and its outstanding work engages thousands of people throughout the greater Hudson County and New York regions each year. With dynamic seasons that include new stage works and classic favorites, Mile Square Theatre is also home to acclaimed theatre education
training and outreach programs designed to spark a love for theatre and build community through the arts.
Hoboken Councilperson at Large Emily Jabbour says, “as a member of the Honorary Board of Trustees, I never miss a production at Mile Square Theatre. I am thrilled about our new Artistic Director in Residence who will build on the incredible work of founder Chris O’Connor and recent AD Kevin R. Free, bringing entertaining and thought-provoking work to Hoboken. Chris Cragin-Day and I share a common belief, which is to tell stories that bring us together – something that is needed now more than ever.”
