We Welcome Gabriel Diego Hernández to the Mile Square Theatre Team!

We are thrilled to introduce a dynamic new member to the Mile Square Theatre team—Gabriel Diego Hernández, who is joining us as our new Education Director! Gabriel’s unique blend of talents, experiences, and passion for education promises to invigorate our programs and inspire our community.

Hailing from Hoboken, New Jersey, Gabriel brings a wealth of experience and a diverse background to his new role. A proud alumni of Yale University with a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s in Latin American Studies, Gabriel’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. His teaching career began in the New Haven public school system, where he honed his skills before returning to the New York area to mentor with organizations such as Prep for Prep and the Possibility Project. He also coordinated the scholarship program at Private Prep and served as musical director at the summer stock theater camp Extravaganza! for over a decade.

As an arts educator, Gabriel has done it all—from live piano accompaniment for children’s choirs to directing all-school plays. His dedication to the arts extends to his work as a performer. He is a proud ensemble member at Pregones Theater in the Bronx, with notable acting credits including El Coquí Espectacular and the Bottle of Doom (Two River Theater), CasablancaBox (HERE Arts Center), 72 Miles to Go… (The Alley Theatre), and La Canción (Repertorio Español). His full-length hip hop musical, Quarter Rican, a heartfelt exploration of identity and parenting (which had its World Premiere at Mile Square Theatre), has garnered significant acclaim and multiple awards, including a Talía Award nomination and the HOLA Award for Outstanding Performance in Musical Theater.

Gabriel’s commitment to the arts and education is matched only by his enthusiasm for fostering creativity and growth in students. He lives in Jersey City Heights with his wife and writing partner, Rachel, and their two young children. Together, they are currently developing their next play, @BlackAtWalden.

We are incredibly excited for Gabriel to bring his innovative spirit, artistic vision, and educational expertise to our organization. Please join us in welcoming him and stay tuned for the exciting new initiatives and programs he will be leading.
